Celebrating Two Decades of Excellence

Washington’s Centers of Excellence were created two decades ago with one simple goal: to bridge the connection between education and industry—helping colleges grow enrollment and build workforce pipelines for critical sectors.

Since then, the Centers have grown into a statewide network of sector-focused hubs, each housed within a community or technical college and serving a high-demand industry that drives Washington’s economy. In 2009, the role of the Centers was formally codified in state statute, affirming the mission of the Centers of Excellence to help colleges stay responsive, relevant, and connected to the world of work.
